Who We Are
person-centered values and A trauma-informed mindful approach to education
Transformational experiences
We believe that transformation is facilitated through honoring the person-centered values of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. We also value qualitative approaches like flexibility, openness to context, and honoring individual, lived experience as the guiding principles for services. We also believe in fostering opportunities for growth that both validate and challenge.
No Two People
Are The Same
We recognize that no two people respond to treatment or education in the same way. We carry this value into the way that we train, assuring quality formation of professionals seeking our services. We respect that people come to us from varied and diverse paths and acknowledge that we have as much to learn from you as you may from us.
Practitioner
Intuition
We acknowledge that practitioner intuition is one of the most important assets in the delivery of clinical and community-based wellness services. Intuition can be developed and honed through the vital practices of self-care, spiritual practice (if desired), and networking/consulting with other practitioners, clients, and stakeholders in services.
Evidence-based
Practice
We approach evidence-based practice through a holistic, culturally-responsive lens. As stated by the American Psychological Association (2006), context, clinical experience, and client preference are major components of evidence-based practice. We aim to give the other elements the primary attention that is lacking in many dimensions of the helping professions. We also emphasize the integration of this total definition alongside practitioner intuition.
Social Justice
We actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within trainings, programs, and publications. We acknowledge the importance of anti-racism and anti-oppression work as imperative to trauma-focused care, as is actively pursuing all avenues for ending discrimination towards people with disabilities, and those with mental health and addiction care needs. We consider the fight for and protection of reproductive justice to be a critical part of our anti-oppression endeavors. We devote ourselves to the purposeful cultivation of a community that is representative of society and the inclusion of individuals of all backgrounds, traditions, and individual differences. We are a feminist, LGBTQ+ affirming organization committed to elevating the experiences of Black, Indigenous, Latinx/Latine, Asian, and historically excluded voices in whatever we can.
Diversity & Social Justice Scholarship
As part of our commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion we make scholarships available to select professional clinicians who are actively working to promote social justice in their circles of work and influence. You can learn more about the scholarship program here.
