Biography

Hi! I am Angélica Figueroa, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of California. I am Latina, bilingual English and Spanish speaking, first-generation, Mexican-American female (ella/she/her).  I have more than ten years of experience providing individual and family therapy across all lifespans. I have dedicated my career to working alongside and with historically underrepresented and marginalized BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities and folks to bring EMDR Therapy that focuses on undoing the effects of systemic oppression.
I have worked in outpatient community mental health centers, integrated medical health centers, held leadership and management positions, and have held my private practice since 2023. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and I am currently an EMDR Consultant-In-Training working with Jasmine Adams, LCSW, PMH-C.
My passion is to bring EMDR Therapy to historically underrepresented and marginalized BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities and folks to specifically address and support the healing from complex trauma, generational trauma, perinatal and postpartum challenges, adjustments to parenthood, oppression trauma, cultural stress, grief and loss, PTSD, and anxiety.  I enjoy providing support to clinicians connected to and providing support to BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities as they work to bring EMDR Therapy to marginalized communities.

EMDR BIPOC  Group Consultation

This BIPOC Group space is specifically held for clinicians identifying as Black, Indigenous, Latinx/Latine, Asian, and other traditionally underrepresented persons of color (BIPOC). I believe that creating this space for growth, collaboration, and to further develop for further skills in the application of EMDR Therapy for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities is valuable to our historically underrepresented and marginalized communities.  I strive to fully realize and uplift my commitment to Social Justice by actively promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within my BIPOC group consultation and individual consultation.

EMDR Group BIPOC Consultations are led by me, Angélica Figueroa, LCSW, EMDRIA Certified Therapist, Consultant-In-Training. I am supported and guided by Jasmine Adams, LCSW, PMH-C EMDRIA Approved Consultant. The group consultation will support your training process by conceptualizing each of the eight phases of EMDR with a lens for identifying how systems of oppression contribute to oppressive cognitions. You will further your skills in how to guide historically underrepresented and marginalized participants presenting with complex trauma, generational trauma, oppression trauma, cultural stress, grief and loss, PTSD, and anxiety in the identification of targets that address oppression trauma and the use of EMDR Therapy with Spanish speaking folks. An emphasis on conceptualizing phase one work within the framework of how the development of our identities has been affected by systemic oppression.

I received my foundational training in EMDR by the Institute for Creative Mindfulness. The BIPOC Group Consultations are for BIPOC Clinicians working with BIPOC participants. These consultations take place over Zoom. If you have received your foundational training through the Institute for Creative Mindfulness, your first 10 hours of consultation count towards your EMDR Therapist-In-Training certification. If you are working towards your EMDR Certification, hours also count towards your certification hours.

If you have questions or would like to reserve a spot in an upcoming BIPOC Group, you can reach me at Angelica@raicesyhearttherapy.com
