Biography
Christy Dunn, LPC (she/her) started her career as a counselor after graduating from the University of Georgia with a Master’s in Professional Counseling in 2010. Originally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, she began practicing in community mental health where she connected especially with clients who identify as gender or sexual nonconforming, as well as those who experience psychosis, severe mental illness, and complex trauma. While serving these clients, she recognized the need for more powerful tools to address the complex trauma history that led to the present day problems her clients were suffering. She completed EMDR Therapy Training, which opened the door to her current specialties of complex trauma, dissociation/ parts work, and LGBTQ+ issues. Not long after EMDR Therapy Training, she entered EMDR therapy and credits her ongoing experience personally in EMDR and parts work as becoming the trenches in which she has truly come to understand the challenges of trauma therapy, parts work, and clinically significant dissociation. As a result, she feels uniquely qualified to help trainees approach the complexities inherent to the process in working with most EMDR trauma clients through consultation. Christy is extremely grateful to have found a professional home in the ICM Community to continue her professional development in interest areas of mindfulness, expressive arts, and dissociation. She approaches consultation with values of authenticity and empathy and a style heavy on intuition, creativity, and humor as an EMDR Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant.
